U3A
The u3a is a charitable organisation for people who are no longer in full employment, and who wish to continue the pleasure of learning and sharing knowledge with other like-minded folk. The u3a was founded in France in 1973, and in the UK in 1981. Wrekin u3a was founded in 1991.
Each U3A branch is an autonomous charity and is run by its Volunteer members. Our membership is drawn from the rural towns and villages in and around the Telford and East Shropshire area. Our vision is to make lifelong learning, through the experience of U3A, a reality for all Third-Agers in the Wrekin locality.
We have groups catering for a wide range of interests - they are listed on our Groups page. We are always on the lookout for new ideas, so if you have an interest that we don’t yet cater for, then please do contact our Groups Coordinator – especially if you would be willing to share your knowledge by helping to set up and/or lead a new group!
We hold general meetings for all members, on the fourth Tuesday of every month except December. These provide opportunities to get together socially, to find out about different groups and their activities, to learn about forthcoming events, and to listen to a Speaker - and in the course of a year we have speakers that provide something of interest for everyone. We hold the general meetings at Shifnal Village Hall at 2.00pm: it offers space for all our members, with full disabled access. Check the Events page for more information on scheduled Speakers. If you would like to know more, then why not come to the next general meeting? If you have specific questions you can contact us on the Enquiries page. We hope you will decide to Join Us. You will be made very welcome!
