Latin Group - See Details Below
When: We meet at 2pm-4pm on the 1st Monday of the month in a members house in Shifnal.
The Latin Group has been studying this ancient language for 11 years, gradually working through the Cambridge Latin Course. The grammar and vocabulary add depth to our understanding of other European languages, including English, while the stories have taken us to Pompeii on the eve of the eruption of Vesuvius, Alexandria and Britannia – Aquae Sulis, just as the baths are being built, the fort of Chester and now back to the streets of Rome under the emperorship of Domitian.
We enjoy the challenge of the learning, working together at a steady pace to understand the complexities of Latin grammar. We are nearing the end of the Course so anyone wishing to join this group would need to have a prior knowledge of the language.
We meet at a member’s house in Shifnal, with on street parking. We purchase our own textbooks and dictionaries and share the cost of any additional materials that are required.
This introduction sounds very serious, but we are a friendly group and find lots to laugh about amid the learning process. It is also very satisfying to find a good translation from a string of Latin words and come to a greater understanding of life under Roman rule.
