Interest Groups

Groups are at the heart of the U3A movement. Through them members meet to share and enjoy learning, and lasting friendships are made through a common interest or desire to take part in something new. The aim of any u3a is to offer cultural, educational, physical and recreational learning for those no longer in full time employment. The u3a ethos is to be self-financing and to learn from one another, and to that end the groups are organised by members, and learning is a shared experience.

Most of our groups meet monthly, except the Bridge Group which meets weekly. Many groups meet in members' homes, but larger groups use local venues, which may incur a hire fee or parking charge.

Where a group has grown too large for someone's home, a waiting list may be created until there is a viable number to form a new group, or the group will consider moving to a larger venue. This may take some time, but the Groups’ Co-ordinator is there to advise and facilitate this.

If you have an interest which is not currently covered, let us know. We are always looking for fresh ideas for new groups and if you are willing to help set up a group, so much the better!

The Groups’ Co-ordinator can be contacted through the Enquiries tab.
