Short Walks Group - See Details Below
A great group of varying numbers set out on walks of up to 4 miles; you would be surprised how easy you would find it when chatting to friends. Descriptions of walks are sent out a few days prior to walking with details of start point, length and a bit of history about the area being visited.

Tong curiosities
The Short Walks Group met at Tong Church recently for a pleasant 4-mile walk through the countryside, finishing with a tour of the church. Gill, our leader, told us of St Bartholomew’s Church’s famous stone carvings, brasses, and the Golden Chapel from the 16th century. The church was founded in 1410 by Elizabeth, widow of Sir Fulke de Pembrugge, whose tomb is there. Every Midsummer’s Day, roses are placed in her hands. The churchyard has preaching steps and, nearby, the supposed grave of Dickens’ Little Nell.
Workshop at the China Clay Museum
Here are a couple of photos from the latest Short Walks Group meeting this month, in which we participated in a walk organised by the Ironbridge Annual Walking festival, which culminated in a workshop at the China Clay museum, where we all attempted to make china clay sheep! We are standing outside the Boat Inn on the banks of the Severn, celebrating the Severn Trow – a special type of craft used to navigate the Severn up from Gloucester and with a plaque marking all the flood levels over the years - Mandy
