Tai Chi - Something different

A tai chi practice involves slow-motion flow — and with that comes a cadre of health benefits, too, including better balance, mobility, and coordination. Tai chi (also called tai chi chuan or tai ji quan) is a mind-body exercise that combines movements, meditation, and deep breathing, according to the American Tai Chi

Pain, Sweat and Tears?
We have been meeting weekly at Shifnal Village Hall since last August and can all notice the difference that Cheryl’s classes have been making to our mobility, strength and flexibility.

After a warm up, we work through a 30 minute routine to music, gradually building up the various moves. We then have a quick water break and then it’s time for the strengthening exercises where Cheryl focuses on a particular area e.g. arms or legs etc. We then finish with a bit of relaxation accompanied by the soothing tones of Don Williams.

Cheryl thinks we’re her quietest class, but it’s because we’re concentrating. It turns out we’re also getting a workout for the brain. We MIGHT be doing all the right moves but not necessarily in the right order!

In conclusion:
We don’t do pain, maybe a bit of burn. If we do sweat, we blame it on the hall’s poor ventilation. But there are definitely tears … of laughter.

Come and give it a go. Every Wednesday 12-1pm at Shifnal Village Hall. Weekly charge £5 Karen Appleby
